You work, you save money, and you'd expect that the more you save the easier your life gets by default. That's not what happens in real life.
Making money is hard, saving money is harder, but what's extremely difficult and mind-bending is figuring out how to spend money on the right things to make your life easier and better.
The number in your bank account is like the number of stars you see in the night sky. Until we know how to use the resources in those stars they're just pretty numbers to look at.
